Velocity 29er Rim Shimano XT

The blog has recently been retitled from “Blog” to “How to Run a Local Bike Shop Business”. It is titled thus, because more often than not, the topics are related to bike shop ownership. True, every bike shop will have their differences, and unique challenges. Yet, in many ways, Standard Bike Repair is your average joe bike shop.

At Standard Bike Repair, we focus on customer service. Many bike shops have repair services, but their profits are realized from the sale of new bikes or bike parts/accessories. Even if our focus remains service, we sell a lot of parts to complete  tune-ups.

Due to the “hidden location” of our shop and the recent increase in parts availability, we are still not a big time player in the “local bike parts available” arena. However, we have all sorts of unique and common parts. For example: we have a 29er rear disc brake wheel dressed in red with a Velocity P35 rim and Shimano XT six-bolt hub. It has been looking pretty in the shop for too long.

This particular item is being advertised online, but we still aim to sell it locally. We do not focus on selling online because our website has less than thousands of hits per day, we have restrictions from our suppliers, don’t really like selling parts to anonymous IP addresses, margins can be small  and customer part returns can be substantial.

Of course, if being an online bike shop was our main objective, there are steps to take such as maximizing the image’s search term availability, dropping it on ebay and craigslist. Selling stuff online is not easy.

All that being said, we present: Our latest “Online item for Sale”: Locals get priority.
