Have you ever tried to remove a crank arm only to strip out the fine threads?
It is a joy when the crank now appears un-removable.
Then, there is the freak-out period while every other mechanic in the shop tries to remove using their brawns and brains.
Options:
1. Use a different and hopefully the right crank puller to reverse the fortunes.
2. Drill through crank, gain leverage and yank it out.
3. Bust out the angle grinder, safety goggles and grind that metal down with orange sparks spraying everywhere.
4. Head to McGuckins to see if there is a tap for that. Bike tool wholesalers sure don’t have it. We looked. Does McGuckins? They might. We talked last week and they requested that I bring the tool, they will measure with calipers, count the threads and then see if they can find the right size to for the funky size crank in the hundreds that they have access too. Go McGuckins!
