The Man with the Plan
First, I read all his blogs when I discovered http://bikesnobnyc.blogspot.com/ on a cold October day about a year ago. I read all the way back to where I could, which I think is about 2011. He writes thrice weekly on average. Dozens, if not a hundred or so blogs, up until the current ones.
After reading the blog and morphing into Bike Snob Time Warp, I decided that I knew enough about the online celebrity to attempt to contact him. I want me and Standard Bike Repair to be famous and I like cool, fascinating, inspiring people…Aka Bike Snob. I figured if I could align with him on Twitter, it would be great for business.
If he gives me the cold shoulder, I will cry and feel rejected. If he says hello, I will forever rejoice and weep with happiness. Either way, tears come out of my extra dry eyes from the combination of lasik surgery zapping my tear ducts and the Colorado air.
The Tweet
Twitter is my new best friend. People who know me call the phases I go through: hobbies or addictions. I bought a 1000 followers, found out that Oprah thinks Twitter is legit and decided to talk to celebrities. Starting with @bikesnobnyc.
Though, I did tweet my second favorite blog yesterday with my comments on football. And Taylor Phinney. I direct messaged Mr. Phinney and mentioned that he was was referred to in my blog post. The attempts to get noticed are getting more shameless.
That might be Bike Snob NYC on my website:
Within thirty minutes of direct tweeting to Bike Snob NYC, a visitor appeared to come from the New York area. According to the Real Time screen, the visitor was referred by Twitter and was visiting the post that I had attached to the direct message. It could have been another Twitterer that noticed the tweet from a similar area.
As you can see, the orange dot is quite big. Plus, I don’t know whether direct messages are seen by more than the recipient. or not. As you can see, I am still learning Twitter. It may be one of the keys to self-promotion via social media. Facebook only allows so many friends and through filters that cost money to break through, it can put a ceiling on your brand growth within that realm.
Get in on the action, follow me on twitter!
Till next time,
Ryan
