Italian Bottom Bracket for 70mm BB shell with a 113mm spindle width. It has opposite threading as it is Italian. Threads “righty-tighty” into the drive-side shell as opposed to the industry standard: “Lefty-tighty on the drive side.”

Somehow it got named: English threading.

Square Taper BB’s: Great Value

Square taper bottom brackets are relatively inexpensive, generally furnished with cartridge bearings and last a long time. If you clean your bike and don’t leave it outside for multiple winters, your bike will last longer and be cheaper to repair.

In other news:

Standard Bike Repair has lots of tools. For instance, we have the standard bottom bracket removal and installation tools. We also have non-standard BB tools like the Phil Wood BB Cup Remover and the Shimano crank removal system for XTR 970 cranks. The 970’s use the TL-FC35 and TL-FC17. If you need to tighten that BB or replace it, we have the tool.

Does he look 20 years old?

Yesterday’s tank was by a man only 20 years old. He was playing the world’s hardest course for the first time.

A man named Bubba won it. Jordan Spieth acted like I would: started thinking about the glory, then turned into a fish.

Rack Does not Fit:

The bicycle’s rear triangle’s “seat stay tube” is extra thick on this Cannondale. No matter how long I have been a bike mechanic, I still forget every thing to consider when replacing a part.

DIY services available at Standard Bike Repair.

Don’t want to know how your bike works? Ryan takes drop-off bikes too. He will gladly listen to summer baseball games and fix your bike.

However, Ryan much prefers when you help fix your bike. Often times, the fix is less than an hour. You get your bike back at the end of the appointment. No wait or scheduling a pick-up time.

I did not have to hoist it to the ceiling and I get paid as soon as the bike gets fixed.

Amazing Customer Service from DerailleurHanger.com:

The owner, Sue Ernst, of this internet based bike part supplier drove from the warehouse to Standard Bike Repair.

She was blown away that it took the United States Parcel Service 5 business days to get a package from Louisville, Colorado to Boulder. She remedied the situation by personal delivery and a will to make it work.

It was Monday and this esoteric frame apparently needs a slightly differently shaped bike part.

Derailleur hangers are commonly used for alloy frames to hang their rear derailleurs on.

On the Battle between Steel and Alloy Frames

Aluminum frames are not always lighter. And not always better, even if they are lighter. Plus, they can break when bent.

A steel frame can be bent back. It does not need an additional piece bolted on called a “derailleur hanger”.

For those frames, that are alloy with derailleur hangers, there is a company in Louisville, CO that specializes in milling the hundreds of derailleur hangers in existence. Even if that frame manufacturer went out of business, they have the part.

Standard Bike Repair keeps a limited number of derailleur hangers in stock

Almost every local bike shop has a line or three of bikes in their store. Generally, they will keep a full stock of derailleur hangers that apply to their brands. Since, I constantly scout the competition in Boulder, I have an idea of where the derailleur hanger might be in town. Calling all of them would be a chore. If the brand of bike that I am working on is not carried in town, then I will go to DerailleurHanger.com.

The app on the site is easy to use. Start by plugging in the bike frame manufacturer.

Thank you Boulder bike community for being accessible. I knew nothing about bike repair when I started this business. I chose it because it’s the biggest game in town. The ability to easily find an unique derailleur hanger within 15 miles of the home-base is a major reason Standard Bike Repair exists.
