The Boulder Bike Swap is coming to Fat Kitty Cycles parking lot on 33rd and Arapahoe on Sunday, May 19th 2013. The event will last from 10am-4pm. Gary Gingras, owner of Fat Kitty Cycles, is the Boulder Bike Swap event coordinator.
Started in 2011, we held the first Boulder Bike Swap since VeloSwap left to go to Denver. In 2012, Scarpa offered to host the event cross-parking lot from Boulder Indoor Cycling, the town’s only velodrome. The coolest place in town to cycle indoors and alongside 45 degree boards went out of business sadly and inconveniently 10 days before the May 22nd, 2012 Boulder Bike Swap.
We drew 1,000 plus guests, bike part retailers, garage bike part junkies, oodles of this and that part person buyers and sellers. It is a great place to trade bike parts in May. We all know it is a long way’s till October’s “Closing down for the season Denver VeloSwap“.
The first year, we sold, gave away and bartered 52 tables. The second year we sold, negotiated and scored several more than 52. The Boulder Bike Swap is meant to be small, and filled with local cycling enthusiasts. You either have too many bike parts in the garage an eye for the shiny object or a functional home bike mechanic or networking/resourcing within the industry.
We have been known to have bands and guest speakers. We have never showcased giraffes. Despite repeated requests, it cost too much to import them from zoos and Africa. We want Boulder Bike Swap to be a show for everybody. Come on out, talk bikes and have fun. Listen to the music and relax on a hot Sunday in May, one week before the Bolder Boulder.
