Wearing Lots of Hats in Small Business Doesn’t Mean Doing Everything
Today, I wrote an email to the bookkeeper. Holy cow, it got detailed. I want the bookkeeper to like me. If the bookkeeper likes you, life is better. It is kind of like that old adage “a happy wife is a happy life”.
“If the company bookkeeper smiles when you approach, your company is probably doing well.”
Okay, ebay… what is it all about?
That is what I am trying to figure out. Thus, I bring you videos about improving your ability to sell on ebay and make your experience within the ebay environment better.
Campagnolo C Record Hubs For Sale
I just got a Velobase account. So exciting. Now I can sell my vintage bike parts to consumers who like this type of thing. Would you like to see the Record hubs for sale? Here is the link for the vintage Campy hubs.
Football
My addiction: men tackling each other in a dramatic background. Shame and glory control the pieces.
I dislike football the way William S. Burroughs didn’t like his heroin addiction. Despite calling it sh*it, he still sunk it.
When Tim Tebow plays, no telling what will happen. Who misses the drama?
I would rather go outside and enjoy a Sunday. Instead, I am watching the Broncos, Patriots, all good teams, whatever comes on Red Zone, Monday Night Football and Thursday night football.
I like the stories behind the games. Lots of times, the games are boring. The games that are good are really fun, but not games are good.
Warren Sapp said “Watching bad football is like watching gay porn”. For a heterosexual guy, gay porn is not good.
Next on my Snowy November Bike Shop To-do List
1. I know what’s next: compare myself to Bike Snob NYC. He seems to ramble on and on with whatever comes to his head with a large focus on him. That seems to be exactly what I am doing.
Black Hat SEO
2. Buy a 1000 Twitter Followers on Fiverr
Black hat SEO is the use of unethical computer practices to achieve greater website visibility. Buying a thousand followers on Twitter could be construed as Black Hat SEO. Keyword Stuffing is my favorite technique.
What is Twitter for?
It is for me to be able to direct tweet Jay-Z or Bike Snob NYC. What a great world that we live in where I can talk to celebrities from my pink laptop.
Social Media Validation is what Twitter is for. If my business is to grow in the year 2014, the online presence will necessarily be growing too.
Advertised Brain Doing Two Things at Once
I am watching Peeta kiss the arrow slinger in Hunger Games as I write this blog.
The Commenting on Other People’s Blog Trick
Have you noticed my shameless attempts to draw my name in your mind from bike websites around the globe? standardbikerepair.com is SBR’s virtual home. A comment on an author’s blog post can drive a click with a human on the mouse to the site’s address.
Click for my thoughts posted as a commenter on a blog post from Bicycle Retailer and Industry News on the trend of “less people walking in the door of bike shops”.
Buying 1000 Twitter Followers on Fiverr Wasn’t My Idea
It was Karen Spies’ idea. She said that you will gain a 1000 followers for about a month and then Twitter will delete them.
SBR’s Most often visited Web-log Post
The blog post that attracts the most visitors worldwide is the blow-by-blow of my first attempt to overhaul a Campagnolo shifter lever.
It took me three hours to do the first lever rebuild. The second, third and fourth one scaled down to minutes. Brian from Vecchio’s is a big part of that. He showed me how to do it.
Next Thing to Do:
3. Text Arturo in San Francisco who is on a two hour lunch break during his day of jury duty.
The latest from Bicycle Retailer and Industry News
There are less customers rolling into bike shops than there were previous years according to Gluskin Towney Report referenced by the BRAIN staff. Less customers could mean 1. more people can fix their own 2. people are using the online world to buy bike parts 3. people are shopping as a hobby less often 4. people are making a purposeful effort to spend less 5. people like bikes less than used to 6. the world population is declining 7. people are tired of dealing with our snobby selves.
Bike Shop Employee/Owner: You call that a bike? What you need to do is buy a new bike? I have one right here for you. Did you buy this at Walmart? There is a reason it was cheap and it is heavy. I refuse to fix that stupid thing.

Pedego Bikes are Electric Bikes
20K Facebook Likes on the Pedego Bikes page. You go from never hearing of a company than seeing their 20K Likes and being like “Oh, yeah that company is legit.” Why did I buy 500 Twitter followers? Did I give that guy my password?
Speaking of Pedego Electric Bikes, it has been an interesting ride of electric bikes. Within the stories that I have heard through the Boulder wind about electric bike companies in Boulder, the lifespan of an e-bike Co. is a lot like the motor in it: surges of power and periodic blow-outs.
Marketplace Niche Opening in Boulder
At the moment, there is a devoid of electric bike repair services in Boulder. The nearest shop is Small Planet E-Bikes in Longmont. Pete’s Electric Bike recently went out of business. They sold bikes and did most of the repair services for the town. OptiBikes only offers services on the e-bikes within their brand.
William S. Burroughs Quotes:
“Love is a haunting melody that I have never mastered, and I fear I never will.”
― William S. Burroughs
“The first and most important thing an individual can do is to become an individual again, decontrol himself, train himself as to what is going on and win back as much independent ground for himself as possible”
― William S. Burroughs
“The question is frequently asked: Why does a man become a drug addict? The answer is that he usually does not intend to become an addict. You don’t wake up one morning and decide to be a drug addict. It takes at least three months’ shooting twice a day to get any habit at all. And you don’t really know what junk sickness is until you have had several habits. It took me almost six months to get my first habit, and then the withdrawal symptoms were mild. I think it no exaggeration to say it takes about a year and several hundred injections to make an addict.”
“The questions, of course, could be asked: Why did you ever try narcotics? Why did you continue using it long enough to become an addict? You become a narcotics addict because you do not have strong motivations in the other direction. Junk wins by default. I tried it as a matter of curiosity. I drifted along taking shots when I could score. I ended up hooked. Most addicts I have talked to report a similar experience. They did not start using drugs for any reason they can remember. They just drifted along until they got hooked. If you have never been addicted, you can have no clear idea what it means to need junk with the addict’s special need. You don’t decide to be an addict. One morning you wake up sick and you’re an addict. (Junky, Prologue, p. xxxviii)”
― William S. Burroughs, Junky
“In the U.S. you have to be a deviant or die of boredom.”
― William S. Burroughs
